Body Weight Assessment

Why should this be assessed? Excess body weight, particularly if stored in the abdominal area, is a major risk factor for many chronic diseases.

Who should have this assessed? All adults 

How often should this be assessed? At least annually, however those who experience changes in their body weight during the year may benefit by more frequent assessments 

Where do I go? Both HLC locations (100 N Tillotson and BSU Health Professions Building) 

When is this available? All hours the HLC is open

 

Blood Pressure Assessment

Why should this be assessed? High blood pressure (hypertension) is a risk factor for many chronic diseases and is considered a vital sign that should be routinely assessed. Those who have been diagnosed with hypertension need to monitor this regularly to determine if the treatments prescribed are effectively controlling their blood pressure.

Who should have this assessed? All adults 

How often should this be assessed? At least annually, however those with hypertension should have it assessed regularly (daily or weekly) 

Where do I go? Both HLC locations (100 N Tillotson and BSU Health Professions Building) 

When is this available? All hours the HLC is open

 

Resting Electrocardiogram Assessment

Why should this be assessed? Normal heart function, including normal heart rhythm, is important for good health. This may be a helpful test to provide to your doctor as part of your annual medical physical. 

Who should have this assessed? All adults, especially those who perceive they may have either ‘skipped’ or ‘extra’ heat beats. 

How often should this be assessed? An annual assessment may be a helpful. 

Where do I go? The HLC in the BSU Health Professions Building 

When is this available? By appointment or during scheduled ‘walk-in’ hours available each week

 

Individual Medication Overview

Why should this be assessed? Understanding the use of all medications is valuable and is important to help individuals adhere to their doctor’s prescription. 

Who should have this assessed? All adults who do not understand 

How often should this be assessed? A one-time overview is often all that is needed, however, if new medications are added, a follow-up appointment can be helpful. 

Where do I go? Both HLC locations (100 N Tillotson and BSU Health Professions Building) 

When is this available? By appointment

 

Muscular Strength Assessment

Why should this be assessed? Muscular strength is a primary component of physical fitness and is important for quality of life. Poor muscle strength is related to many chronic diseases. 

Who should have this assessed? All adults. 

How often should this be assessed? An annual assessment may be helpful, however, evaluations with any changes in regular activity patterns is also beneficial. 

Where do I go? The HLC in the BSU Health Professions Building 

When is this available? By appointment or during scheduled ‘walk-in’ hours available each week

 

Physical Activity Assessment

Why should this be assessed? Insufficient physical activity is a risk factor for most chronic diseases. Physical activity is considered a vital sign that should be regularly assessed. 

Who should have this assessed? All adults. 

How often should this be assessed? An annual assessment may be a helpful, however, evaluation in each season of of the year may be helpful. 

Where do I go? The HLC in the BSU Health Professions Building 

When is this available? By appointment or during scheduled ‘walk-in’ hours available each week

 

Pulmonary Function Testing

Why should this be assessed? Lung function is important for good health and this is a simple test to evaluate lung function. Those who smoke and those diagnosed with a lung disease should be have this assessed regularly. 

Who should have this assessed? All adults 

How often should this be assessed? An assessment every few years may be helpful, however those who smoke should have it assessed at least annually. Also, those diagnosed with a lung disease such as asthma, bronchitis, or emphysema should have it assessed at least annually.

When is this available? By appointment or during scheduled ‘walk-in’ hours available each week

Inadequate or Poor Quality Sleep

Why should this be assessed? Long-term inadequate or poor quality sleep may lead to many helath problems and chronic diseases. Click here for more information (http://healthysleep.med.harvard.edu/healthy/matters/consequences

Who should have this assessed? Any adults that have are concerned that they are not getting adequate or good quality sleep. The HLC staff can help screen for appropriate concerns. 

How often should this be assessed? Typically, this is a one-time assessment, that may help you and your healthcare provider in know if inadequate or poor quality sleep is a concern for you. 

Where do I go? Both HLC locations (100 N Tillotson and BSU Health Professions Building) for an initial screening.
